The Media Council of Kenya is a national body established by the Media Council Act (2013) for purposes of media regulation and development as envisaged under Article 34(5) of the Constitution of Kenya.
The Council appreciates the changing media landscape in Kenya and beyond. It is on this dynamism that the Media Council of Kenya rolled out support for the establishment of Press Clubs in Kenya with a view of assisting journalists to align their activities to the media’s paradigm shift including the emergence of entrepreneurial journalism.
Press Clubs in Kenya are envisioned to serving as a vital platform for journalists and media practitioners to collaborate, network, engage in professional development, develop digital content and collaboratively undertake other entrepreneurial journalism activities. The Press Clubs will further provide a framework where journalists can share experiences, skills, and advocate for professionalism.
The establishment of Press Clubs in Kenya by the Media Council of Kenya, therefore, aims to foster a vibrant and empowered community of journalists, strengthen professionalism, promote excellence in journalism and enhance professional viability in the sector through monetization of digital content and venturing in entrepreneurial journalism as a whole.

This will help bring together an understanding on the role of the media and how the public should consume media content. This will help in enhancing Access to Information.
The success of individual Press Clubs under this framework will rely on structured partnerships and collaboration with key stakeholders. The Press Clubs will proactively leverage on sustainable networks to achieve their objectives and make a meaningful impact on their members and the media landscape in Kenya.
